A day after the Prime Ministers Office rejected Anna Hazares demands for setting up an SIT to probe into corruption charges against PM Manmohan Singh and 14 of his Cabinet colleagues,Team Anna member Kiran Bedi equated the PM with Dhritrashtra of the Mahabharat. In return,Team Anna attracted severe criticism from Law Minister Salman Khurshid.
PMO Clears PM. Did Dhritrashtra in Mahabharat not support Kauravas even after they attempted to disrobe Draupadi? Indian Genes/ Culture? Or? Bedi tweeted on Sunday sticking to the demand for an SIT probe.
Bedis remarks attracted criticism from the government with Khurshid terming the tirade as personal campaign and personal ambition. We all felt they started off with a good idea8230;of containing corruption and questioning corruption8230; But today, they are doing greatest disservice to this idea by converting it into a personal campaign and personal ambition. I will quite confidently say that the country will give them a suitable answer when the time comes, Khurshid said.
Bedis attacks continued. Dhritrashtra had Vidura who used to advise him on Dharma even if advise was not followed! Who is Vidura for our Dhritrashtra our PM, she tweeted, adding,Our PM needs a Vidura who could tell him,Anna is not asking anything for himself but for the nation. He is not anti-national but a patriot.
CPM leader Brinda Karat also expressed her dissatisfaction over the PMOs position. The letter from the PMO to Hazare does not clear anything, she said.
Bedi,in this context, stuck with Team Annas position that it will continue the anti-corruption campaign against the Congress at Centre and no other political party. Do or Die fast from July 25 for SIT probe on PM14 Cab ministers. Tainted team may never give us an expeditious and strong criminal justice system, she tweeted, saying their movement was focussed on PARTY in POWER at the CENTRE as the Opposition cannot get get legislations through Parliament.
Khurshid termed Team Anna campaign as not helpful to the democracy where the government and politicians are subject to public scrutiny and asked them to come out clean over the alleged irregularities committed by them. We are at least subject to public scrutiny. Every five years we go through an election. There are many questions they must first answer. I dont think they have the right to ask questions and I dont think they are being very helpful and very good to democracy in our country, he said.
I support issues raised by Hazare,Ramdev, says ex-Army Chief
Former Army Chief General V K Singh has said he supports the issues raised by Anna Hazare and Ramdev, but has not yet decided on joining the activists. Whatever issues have been raised by them, every citizen supports it. You also support it and even I do, he told reporters while reacting to queries on joining Team Anna and Ramdev. Singh, who had been mired in controversies during his tenure as Army Chief, said,As of now,I have not decided anything. Everyone is raising voice against corruption and it is good8230;What will be the form of fight it is difficult to describe. Let me clarify things first, will decide later on. Singh said he had no interest in politics. Let me see what is in store for me, he said.
