CARACAS: Hugo Chavez said he ordered two F-16 jets to intercept a US military plane that twice entered Venezuelan skies on Friday,but Washington said none of its planes flew over the South American country8217;s airspace. Brandishing a photo of the plane,which he described as a P-3,Chavez said the overflight was the latest violation of Venezuelan airspace by the US military from its bases on the Netherlandss Caribbean islands and from Colombia.

Gunmen fire at Pak Ministers vehicle

Islamabad: The driver of a provincial minister was killed when unidentified gunmen fired at his official vehicle in Quetta,police said. Salim Khosa,a minister of Balochistan province,was not in the car at the time of the attack,police said. The driver was going to the ministers official residence when the gunmen intercepted the vehicle and riddled it with bullets. The driver was killed instantly.

Velupillais funeral to be held on Monday

Colombo: The funeral of Thiruvekkadam Velupillai,father of Velupillai Prabhakaran,will be held on Monday in Jaffna,likely to be attended by the guerrilla leaders mother. The remains of Velupillai,who died over seven months after Prabhakaran was killed in northern Sri Lanka,were handed by the Army from its protection to the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian K Sivajilingam on Friday.

Cold snap disrupts life in Europe

Berlin: Europe faced weekend weather misery with scores of flights cancelled on Saturday as snow blanketed swathes of the continent,severing key highways and disrupting rail and electricity links. Germans were urged to buy enough food and medicines to last for up to four days in the face of a blizzard. With much of Britain already shivering through the worst spell of winter in more than 30 years,a further blanketing was expected.

Allah issue: Fourth church attacked

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian authorities on Saturday asked Christians to step up security around churches as a fourth church was attacked amid a row following a court ruling over the use of the word Allah by non-Muslims.
