Anna to skip Kejriwal fast

The two are set to start on a countrywide Jantantra Yatra from Amritsar on March 31 to awaken the people in preparation for a complete systemic overhaul.

Two days after he admitted to considering Arvind Kejriwals invitation to participate in his indefinite fast from March 23,Anna Hazare on Thursday said that he will not attend the fast as he is averse to party politics.

Hazare was accompanied by former Army chief General V K Singh, who seemed to have taken on Kejriwals earlier role of explaining media queries to Hazare and dealing with the nuts and bolts of the movement.

The two are set to start on a countrywide Jantantra Yatra from Amritsar on March 31 to awaken the people in preparation for a complete systemic overhaul.

They claimed that the tour had nothing to do with the impending Lok Sabha elections next year, but did not elaborate on how the system in a democracy can change without taking the electoral route.

Arvind had come to Ralegan Siddhi to seek my blessings for his upcoming fast,so I wished him all the best. As for participation in the fast,I have already made it very clear that we are not part of any political party or formation so I am not planning to go to Arvinds stage on Saturday, Hazare said.

He had earlier said he was considering Kejriwals request for participation and the AAP camp had claimed that Hazare had promised to fast irrespective of whether he makes it to the fast or not. Hazare claimed that his new organisation, which is being called the Jantantra Morcha, will have no spokesperson or core committee and its members have been asked not to accept any money as donations.

The first phase of the tour will start from Jallianwala Bagh and end on April 17 in western UP.
