A Canadian animation film in 3D,Alpha and Omega is about two wolves. Set in the Jasper National Park,Kate and Humphrey have known each other since they were cubs, but they are on the opposite ends of the packs social structure with Kate as the energetic Alpha daughter of the pack leader and Humphrey being the good-humoured Omega.
That social structure forces Kate to accept an arranged marriage with Garth the Alpha of another Pack to unite the packs for peace. But before that union can happen,Kate and Humphrey are captured by the parks rangers and sent to an Idaho park as part of a wolf repopulation project.
However,as this disparate pair struggle through the dangers to get home,a growing mutual appreciation of their talents and then a deeper love threatens to disastrously complicate everything if they make it back.
Alpha and Omega isnt the kind of animation movie other animation facilities have showcased. So there are no cutesy characters, barring Lily the second lead, nor are their any throwbacks on human prototypes. It is a straight love story a bit of Romeo amp; Juliet,a bit of Lady and the Tramp.
The animation doesnt heavily depend on colours and caricatures. The 3-D gives a marvellous depth to the landscape. The stunts and action sequences are to be commended especially as Kate and Humphrey spin around during a free fall or slide down slopes in the split tree trunk. The lack of a solid story is made up by the production values like the seamless action, the detailed animation, etc.
RATING:
One star for animation and action sequences. One for direction and voice talent.
