On the lines of his agitation over sugarcane pricing,RLD chief Ajit Singh now plans to put pressure on the Centre to scrap the archaic Land Acquisition Act,1894 and enact a new law to protect the interest of farmers.

After his meeting with CPI general secretary A B Bardhan on Friday,Singh claimed that he had already secured support of some opposition parties, including the Left. He said soon he would talk to other opposition parties and launch an agitation like the one he had spearheaded over sugarcane pricing.

I met CPM general secretary Prakash Karat recently and will go to Hyderabad tomorrow to meet Chandrababu Naidu. Once again farmers will gherao Delhi and march to Parliament, Singh said.

Asked whether he supported the amended land acquisition Bills being blocked by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee,Singh said they had serious loopholes and added that he had drafted a proposal. The amended Bills do not fully protect the interests of the farmers. Fertile land should have the same checks and balances as acquiring forest land. I have drafted a proposal and I will move it in the Lok Sabha, Singh said.
