Ajit Pawar apology fails to work,House stalled

NCP chief calls remark unwanted

Under severe criticism from parties cutting across the political spectrum,a chastened Ajit Pawar,Deputy Chief Minister,Maharashtra,was on Monday forced to apologise to the Assembly as well as the general public. He termed his statements the biggest mistake in his political life.

At a public rally in Indapur in Pimpri-Chinchwad,Pune,Pawar mocked farmers agitating the states response to drought and said,If there is no water in the dam8230;should we urinate into it? The combined Opposition in the state stalled the Maharashtra Assembly from functioning to protest his remarks. Many demanded he resign as Deputy Chief Minister.

After what I said on Saturday I have apologised to the Assembly. Through the media I would also like to seek forgiveness from the people of the state. While working in political life I have seen lot of ups and downs. However this incident has affected me a lot. Because I feel that this mistake that has happened is the biggest blunder of my political life for which I seek forgiveness from the people of Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar told reporters.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar also issued a statement on Twitter apologising his nephews statement. I duly apologise on behalf of Deputy CM of Maharashtra for the unwanted comment that he has made, senior Pawar said.

Earlier in the day,both Houses of the Maharashtra Legislature witnessed an uproar over Pawars remarks. He was forced to make a statement of apology in both the Houses. Despite his apology,both the Houses were adjourned for the day with the Opposition baying for Pawars head.
