Pakistani fans started entering India to a warm welcome through the Attari check post on Monday to watch the World Cup Cricket semi-final match between India and Pakistan on Wednesday.
There were some anxious moments as well when Pakistan captain Shahid Afridis brother Mushtaq Afridi was allegedly stopped and questioned for five hours by security officials at the border.
Immigration officials said as soon as they were satisfied with his credentials and the originality of the tickets,they let him go.
Mushtaq,who was visibly upset at the prolonged questioning,was seen making frantic calls as soon as he was taken to a room by immigration officials. Talking to mediapersons later,Mushtaq said he was stopped for five hours.
There was some problem with my tickets. Now I have been cleared to go to Mohali to cheer my team for the crucial match, he said.
Downplaying the incident,Mushtaq said during such big events,small things his questioning happen and cautioned that no political overtone should be given. I am not unhappy. Such things happen, he said.
Mushtaq,who was accompanied by a friend,said scarcity of tickets was a major issue and his own younger brother could not get a ticket.
There is a lot of enthusiasm in Pakistan over the match. They want to come but then tickets are not available and then strict visas terms also come into the way, said Ibraheem,a Pakistani fan from Lahore.
Arshad,another fan who was wearing the Pakistani teams dress,said they were being received warmly and were excited to be in Chandigarh and Mohali.
A match between the two countries is being played after a long gap. There is so much excitement back home, he said.
