Adarsh: Top officials refuse to resign

The Maharashtra government asked Information Commissioner.

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday asked Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari and State Human Rights Commission Member Subhash Lala whose names are linked to the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam to resign but they refused.

Tiwaris son Omkar and Lalas mother Susheela Shaligram and daughter Sumeela Sethi are members of the society located in Cuffe Parade .

A senior bureaucrat said the government had asked them to put in their papers but they declined.

While Tiwari, who headed the state urban development department when the file was being processed, did not respond to calls,Lala said he had no comments to offer. No comments please, said Lala, who was the principal secretary to the chief minister.

The state government had served showcause notices to 21 bureaucrats, including 12 IAS officers,in the first week of December and asked them to respond to allegations of their alleged involvement in the scam.

All the officials are believed to have denied any connection to the scandal and claimed that they or their relatives had got apartments in Adarsh on legitimate grounds.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation plans to file an FIR in the case next month. We are trying to make our case watertight. We are not leaving any stone unturned, said a senior CBI official.
