Adarsh seeks more time in reply

Maintaining that there was nothing illegal about its 31-storey building.

Maintaining that there was nothing illegal about its 31-storey building, the Adarsh Cooperative Society has sought more time from the Environment Ministry to submit evidence in support of its claims.

The Ministry had,on November 12,asked the Adarsh society to reply within 15 days why the entire structure should not be demolished as it was built 8220;in violation of environmental laws8221;,and that it was 8220;unambiguously and categorically8221; clear that the building was illegal.

In reply, the society is learnt to have asked for a personal hearing and sought more time to prove that no law had been violated. It was not immediately clear whether the Ministry had agreed. Sources, however, said further action was unlikely any time soon.
