82 murder case: Another CPM MLA made accused

CPM legislator K K Jayachandran,representing Udumbanchola constituency in Idukki district,was made an accused in the case pertaining to the murder of Youth Congress

CPM legislator K K Jayachandran,representing Udumbanchola constituency in Idukki district,was made an accused in the case pertaining to the murder of Youth Congress worker Anchery Baby,one of the victims in the list announced by party Idukki district secretary M M Mani.

Jayachandran had been an area committee secretary of the CPM in 1982 when Baby was shot dead. Apart from Mani,who is listed as the first accused in the case,his brother M M Lambodharan also figures in the case as an accused.

The other two accused are O G Madhanan,a former CITU leader,and Valooril Joseph,who died later.

They were charged with sections 302 read with 34,118 and 120 of the Indian Penal Code IPC.

Jayachandran said that he was yet to get any official information from the police about being made an accused in the murder case. I have heard about the development only from TV channels, he said.

Police sources said the case was registered based on the statement of Mohandas,who had been the local secretary of the CPM at the time of the murder. Mohandas later joined the BJP.

Baby was murdered on November 13,1982,as an outcome of a rivalry between the INTUC and CITU,at the plantations in the high ranges of Idukki. All the seven accused were let free for want of evidence.

Babys family had alleged that CPM leaders had threatened the prosecution witnesses even on the premises of the trial court. Mani had been in charge of the party in the high ranges of Idukki when the murder took place in 1982.
