4 monasteries damaged
Gangtok: Four monasteries were badly damaged in Sundays earthquake in Sikkim,sources said Tuesday. Pemayangtse monastery,built in 1705 near the tourist town of Pelling in West Sikkim district,was extensively damaged. So was the case with Tashiding monastery that was founded in 1641. Damage was also caused to Enchey monastery established in 1909 in Gangtok as also to Ringhem Monastery above Mangan in North Sikkim.
Rahul to reach today
New Delhi: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will visit earthquake-hit areas in Sikkim on Wednesday and meet victims and their families. Gandhi was scheduled to visit Meghalaya on September 21 for a public meeting of Youth Congress membership. He will now visit Gangtok before attending the YC meeting.
PM takes stock
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs to take stock of the situation arising out of Sundays earthquake in Sikkim. Prior to the meeting,Singh spoke to Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling and assured him of all help.

SILIGIRI: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee reached Sikkim by road from Siliguri around 3.30 pm accompanied by the Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy. She inspected Lumsey,a residential area in the town. She then went to the Central Referral Hospital,Manipal.
