A magistrate court remanded them in judicial custody for two weeks.

Four cured patients of government mental hospital, who used to assist hospital staff in restraining violent inmates, were on Monday arrested in connection with the death of a law student from Bihar,Satnam Singh, who died on August 4.

A magistrate court remanded them in judicial custody for two weeks. The court had allowed the arrest of the four inmates based on a medical report. Earlier, two staff of the hospital had been arrested on charges of murder.

Investigating Officer Gopakumaran Nair said the four inmates had criminal history. While three of them were involved in murder and rape cases, the other was accused of domestic violence. The hospital had certified them as cured patients and thus justified their assistance in overpowering violent inmates. The arrested, who had been the inmates of the forensic cell at the hospital, could not be send back to the jail as a result of procedure delay, said Nair.
