New Delhi: Indian GSM telecom operators added a whopping 17.45 million new subscribers in November,taking the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base to 526.18 million,cellular operators association COAI said on Thursday. The GSM subscriber base stood at 508.72 million at the end of October,2010. Bharti Airtel,the largest GSM player,added 3.10 million new users in November,taking its total subscriber base to 149.39 million,data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India COAI showed.

SC turns down Estees plea against Gufic

Mumbai: Gufic Biosciences has won the trademark

infringement case filed by American cosmetic major Estee Lauder. The Supreme Court has turned down Estee Lauders plea against Gufic Biosciences. In 2008,Estee Lauder arm Clinique Laboratories had filed a case against Gufic Biosciences at the Delhi High Court to prevent them from selling their skin care product Skincliniq Stretch Nil under the latters Cliniq brands. This went in favour of Gufic, it said in a statement.

India now a member of Eurasian Group

New Delhi: India has gained membership of the Eurasian Group which is a Financial Action Task Force styled regional body,

responsible for enforcing global standards on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism. The decision to apply for the membership was taken by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee earlier this month. The support for Indias application was unanimous from the group whose other members include Russia,China,Turkmenistan,Serbia,Tajikistan,Uzbekistan,Belarus and,Kazakhstan. The group also has 15 organisations as observers.

Cairn CEO meets FM on Vedanta deal

New Delhi: After reluctantly agreeing to the requirement of government nod to sell majority stake in its India unit to Vedanta Resources,Cairn Energy CEO Bill Gammell on Thursday called on finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and top government officials to seek support for the 9.6 billion deal. Edinburgh-based Gammell,on his third trip to India since announcing a prospective deal to sell up to 51 per cent stake in Cairn India on August 16,also met T K A Nair,principal secretary to the Prime Minister and oil secretary S Sundareshan.

Tata Motors to up prices except Nano

Mumbai: Tata Motors plans to raise prices of all its passenger vehicles by up to 1.5 per cent from next month onwards

except that of Nano and the newly-launched Aria. The increase is on account of surging input costs,the Tata group company said. We will increase prices of all our passenger vehicles by 1-1.5 per cent from January due to higher input costs, Tata Motors vice-president Commercial,Passenger Cars Business Unit,R Ramakrishnan said on here.
