There were many red faces when HRD Minister Arjun Singh called higher education a 8220;sick child8221;. While UGC Chairman Sukhdeo Thorat, organiser of the two-day vice-chancellors8217; jamboree, was one of them, Higher Education Secretary RP Agarwal put up a brave face saying, 8220;The impoverished child needs better nutrition.8221; Joint Secretary Higher Education Sunil Kumar, who has been with Arjun Singh for almost two decades, has called the UGC honchos for a follow-up meeting on the sick child8217;s nutrition. Simultaneously, better prescription are being thought out in higher forums of the Government and the Congress.
