Wanted: paediatrician

There were many red faces when HRD Minister Arjun Singh called higher education a “sick child”. While UGC Chairman Sukhdeo Thorat, organiser of the two-day vice-chancellors’ jamboree, was one of them, Higher Education Secretary RP Agarwal put up a brave face saying, “The impoverished child needs better nutrition.” Joint Secretary (Higher Education) Sunil Kumar, who has been with Arjun Singh for almost two decades, has called the UGC honchos for a follow-up meeting on the sick child’s nutrition. Simultaneously, better prescription are being thought out in higher forums of the Government and the Congress.
