The recent episode of The Great Kapil Show Season 4 saw cricket legends Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif and Virender Sehwag share fun anecdotes from their time playing for the Indian cricket team. During the interaction, Sehwag also opened up about his teenage son Aryavir Sehwag, who is already creating waves in domestic cricket. The former cricketer revealed how his son narrowly missed winning himself a Ferrari by just a few runs.
During the interaction with Kapil Sharma, Sehwag admitted that he never listened to coaches when he played international cricket. He said, “When I used to play cricket, I did not listen to any coach. Many coaches shared their thoughts on my stance, the way I grip my bat, and my head position. Main sunta sab ki tha par karta apni tha (I listened to all of them, but I charted my own course).”
He added, “Now that I am a coach, I know exactly what the player in front of me is thinking that ‘he will bark a lot and then leave.’ So what do I tell him? That’s why I was never interested in coaching because I myself never listen to coaches. now, when I coach my kids, I just tell them your dad never used his feet. At least you should.”
Sehwag further shared that he had set a target for his sons to break his own record of 319 runs — his highest Test score and the fastest triple century in Test cricket — and promised to buy him a Ferrari if he achieved it. Aryavir came close to the mark in 2024 when he scored 297 runs at the Cooch Behar Trophy tournament for his team, Delhi U-19. Despite coming very close to the target and scoring 297 runs in a single innings, Sehwag did not buy his son the car. He later shared Aryavir’s feat on social media and wrote, “You miss the Ferrari by 23 runs.”
When Kapil asked if his son said that I missed it only by a few runs, at least buy me a Ferrari with three wheels, Sehwag shot back, “Even a Ferrari with three wheels cost money”. He added, “I have told them that if they score more than 319 runs anywhere, I will gift you a Ferrari. A toy Ferrari also counts. I didn’t promise him the big Ferrari.”
