CHANDIGARH, Sept 6: Sector 35 resident Krishan Dev Aggarwal and five other members of his family were denied their right to exercise their franchise yesterday. They had their voter identity cards but could not cast a vote because their names were not found in the electoral rolls.

Aggarwal claims to have been staying at this residence for the last many years and has been voted everytime, except this time. He told Newsline that besides his tenants, many of his neighbours also had to face a similar situation as their addresses too were found to be missing from the rolls. The calls to several poll officials proved a cropper as their claim to vote was not entertained.

Ramesh Kanta Loomba, an old resident of Sector 20-A was also not permitted to vote. In this particular case, her voter identity card mentioned her category as male and age as 35 years; whereas she is female and 53 years of age. Similar was the situation of many other voters who were not allowed to cast their vote for mistakes in the rolls. They suffered for no fault of theirs.
