
MP Rahul Gandhi today paid obeisance at the Hussainiwala memorial built in the memory of freedom fighters, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
Rahul reached Hussainiwala in the afternoon from Jaitu. Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi submitted a memorandum to Rahul Gandhi, in which he demanded opening of Hussainiwala border and setting up of big industries for the development of the area.
Sodhi is said to be eyeing ticket from Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency. The other likely contender is senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar. 8220;I have submitted the memorandum to Rahul and demanded that the area should be properly represented to usher in an era of development,8221; said Sodhi.
From Hussainiwala, Rahul Gandhi went to Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, to attend a seminar on female foeticide. On the occasion, Rahul answered different queries of students. Terming female foeticide as a curse, Rahul dwelt upon the need to spread awareness.
Answering a query of a student as to why he was not getting married, Rahul said he was busy serving the country, and was not getting time for it.
To another query on corruption, Rahul said entry of youngsters in politics could go a long way in checking the menace. He termed infrastructure, democratic set-up and education as the three mainstays for leading country on the path of progress.
Rally not allowed
Rana Sodhi said a rally was planned at Hussainiwala, but the administration did not give the permission. When contacted, Ferozepur DC Megh Raj said the only function that was allowed at Hussainiwala was on March 23 every year in the memory of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. 8220;We cannot allow any other function. Sodhi has violated the law by putting chairs at the venue without taking permission,8221; DC said.
