Two months after he became the Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal has initiated a process of putting not merely former CM Virbhadra Singh and his six ministers but also some officials under the vigilance scanner. The state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau will investigate charges of corruption, favouritism and disproportionate assets against the former CM, former ministers and officials who enjoyed Virbhadra’s patronage. The basis of inquiry against the Congress politicians and officials will be BJP’s chargesheet, which the party had submitted to Governor V S Kokje on March 6, levelling specific charges against cabinet ministers and officers —- all of whom were allegedly involved in blatant misuse of power. All the ministers had denied the charges after the release of the chargesheet. On Wednesday, Dhumal confirmed to The Indian Express that the state Government had taken a decision to conduct a probe into the chargesheet. “The chargesheet has been forwarded to the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau and it is up to the investigating agency to take action as per law,” he said. The chargesheet was compiled by a committee headed by BJP general secretary Kushi Ram Balnatah.
