SILVERSTONE, July 14: Canadian Jacques Villeneuve — in a Williams Renault — overcame a dangerously loose wheel and a long pit stop to win a dramatic British Grand Prix on Sunday and jump back into World Championship contention.

He fought back from seventh place and a half-minute deficit to score the 100th Grand Prix victory in 308 starts for the Williams team, at the track where the team took its first win in 1979.

Villeneuve, now trails leader Michael Schumacher by only four points at mid-season. The two Benetton Renaults of Jean Alesi and Alexander Wurz claimed second and third places.
