New Delhi, october 17: Sub-junior top seed Vikrant Sane of Maharashtra cruised into round two of the sub-junior and mini-junior sections of the DSCL Open National tennis championships here on Tuesday. Vikrant beat qualifier Vishnu Vardhan (AP) 6-1, 6-1.
In the other matches of the boys’ section, the mini-junior No 1 seed Vijaysunder Prashant was knocked-out of reckoning. Vijaysunder lost to Divij Sharan of Delhi 3-6, 4-6. Vijaysunder also lost his match in the under-16 section, going down to Maharashtra’s Saurabh Kohli 6-7 (6), 5-7.Vikrant now meets Saurabh in the pre-quarters. The only seed to bow out in the section was eighth-seed Nehal Advani who was ousted by fellow Maharashtrian Karan Rastogi 3-6, 1-6.
Second seed V Vignesh (AP) also moved to round two when he beat qualifier Ajay Selvaraj (TN) 6-3, 6-1. Also proceeding were third seed Somdev Dev Varman (TN) who beat S Kishore 6-4, 7-6 (5), fourth-seed Chatwinder Singh who ousted Varun Walia (TN) 7-6 (4) and 6-1, fifth-seed Dhurb Kumar who breezed past Delhi’s Wrik Ganguly 6-0, 6-1. The last two seeded players to proceed were sixth-seeded Rishi Behl who moved past Delhi’s Arjun Uppal 7-5, 6-1 and seventh-seed Karnataka’s Tejeshwar Chigateri who beat Anshuman Dutta 6-3, 6-3.
In the girls’ section, the Bhambri sisters put up brilliant performances. while in the sub-junior section top seed Ankita proceeded to the second round with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over wildcarder Anjani Kant, Sanaa moved past Tamil Nadu’s K Fatima Baig 6-3, 6-3. Ankita now clashes with Tamil Nadu’s Sharanya Pattabi while Sanaa meets Oormilla Ram (AP), the latter moving after defeating S Preethi 6-1, 6-3.
The lone seed to fall in the girls’ under-16 section was seventh-seed Mansi Modi who was beaten by K Pooja 2-6, 6-7 (5). In the mini-junior section, while top seed Sanaa registered a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory over Chandigarh’s Simmer. Ankita, the second seed, beat Tamil Nadu’s S Preethi 6-0, 6-1.
All the seeded players in this section moved to the next round. These included third-seeded Kartiki bhat who ousted Vandana Murali 6-1, 6-1, fourth-seeded K Fatima Baig who defeated Sandhya Nagaraj 6-3, 6-3 and fifth-seeded Sharanya Pattabi who moved past Chandigarh’s Isha Toor 6-4, 6-0.
