AHMEDABAD, OCT 11: The morality police are at work again. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad VHP has distributed leaflets telling residents of Kadi town in Mehsana district how to observe the Navratri festival. This has ruffled feathers of Christian community leaders here, who say the leaflets are anti-Christian.

While the VHP says the leaflets are guidelines for members of the town8217;s Raval community, Christian community leaders allege it is an attempt to stall the nine-day Christian fete called Unteshwari Mata Aradhna which coincides with Navratri.

Father Cedric Prakash of United Christian Forum, Ahmedabad, said the leaflets were aimed at disrupting the Christian fete. He said the fete had been observed in the town since the past 29 years without any disruption.

He said VHP members, who admitted to publishing and distributing the leaflets, held an anti-Christian meeting in Kalol on Sunday. He said the Kadi police had information about distribution of the leaflets. Fr Cedric Prakash said the fete would becelebrated despite any propaganda against it.

When contacted, VHP functionary Jaideep Patel said the meeting at Kalol on Sunday was a routine affair. Patel said the Unteshwari Mata Aradhna was no more than a cover to convert people into Christianity. He acknowledged that leaflets were distributed among members of the Raval community in Kadi, but they were aimed at informing people about the religious aspect of Navratri garba.
