Standing by his decisions in national team selection matters, chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar today said the moves were paying dividends as India were rising up in the world rankings.

8220;When we took it selection in our hands, we were No. 7 at the ICC rankings, now we are No. 2 and we hope that we will be No. 1 very soon not only in Tests, but even in One-Day Internationals,8221; Vengsarkar told a television channel.

Vengarsarkar8217;s remarks came just a day after surprising omission of senior players like Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in One-Day International team for next month8217;s triangular series in Australia, which became a subject of debate among cricket experts and enraged fans.
