Varsity to agitating engineering students 8211; We shall act by Monday

PUNE, Aug 6: Almost 200 engineering students from Pune, Loni, Ahmednagar, Kopargaon and Nashik have braved the constant drizzle to launch a peaceful agitation at the University of Pune, main building, till Monday, to demand that the 8220;carry all8221; rule be implemented for third year students.

With the new revised syllabus being gradually implemented for engineering, the roughly 700 ATKT students are demanding promotion to BE, final year, despite their backlogs. 8220;The Director, Board of University and College Development has received our appeal and discussed the issue with our representatives on Thursday, Officials have assured us that a decision will be taken by Monday,8221; said a student. 8220;Until then we will stay at the university from 9 am to 5.30 pm, to ensure that our demands are met.8221;

With several subjects of all engineering branches being shifted from the final year to third year, a few subjects will be skipped by the students of the old course, who have a year down because of second or third year backlogs.Almost 200-400 students will gather at the university on Monday, when the university decision is expected to be announced.
