Timings for loudspeakers extended
Commissioner of Police Kuldip Sharma has extended the timing for use of loudspeakers at garba functions from 1 to 1.30 am following demands made by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. A delegation of BJP leaders, comprising MP Jayaben Thakkar, MLAs Yogesh Patel, Bhupendra Lakhawala, Chinubhai Baraiya and Pravin Barejia had called on Sharma on Saturday and submitted a memorandum demanding extension on use of microphones from 1 to 2 am.

The demand was raised in the wake of a lathi-charge by the police on a group in the Ahmedabadi Pole area for playing loudspeakers after 1 am. Angered, the residents had approached BJP MLA Yogesh Patel to get the deadline extended. Though loudspeakers can be played only till 1.30 am, people can play garbas till morning, but only after turning off the loudspeakers.

Food provided
The Interact Club of Gujarat Refinery English Medium School GREMS, dealing with various social welfare activities, recently initiated the Nix campaign by undertaking relief operations in the Bajwa slums that were moderately affected by the recent torrential downpour. Under the campaign, food packets were distributed to residents staying opposite the Bajwa General hospital and at the slum areas alongside the railway track.

Rainfall
Only four of the 12 talukas of Vadodara district recorded rains till Sunday night. Savli recorded 30 mm, Sankheda, 9 mm, Padra 3 mm and Vadodara 6.1 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 8.30 pm. Earlier during the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, Dabhoi recorded 1 mm rainfall, Savli 40 mm, Sankheda 7 mm and Kwant 2 mm rainfall, weather officials said.

Relief camp
The Vadodara unit of the All-India Democratic Students8217; Organisation AIDSO has condemned the alleged politicisation of relief activities in Surat. AIDSO president, Bharati Parmar, in a statement on Sunday, said AIDSO units of Vadodara, Surat and Ahmedabad had organised relief camps, where flood-affected people were being given medicines, food, clothes and other essential commodities.

KV programme
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Harni Road, will conduct a cultural exchange programme from September 28 to October 4 for students from Chandigarh region. The programme will be inaugurated by Neela Shelat, reader in the Faculty of Arts and Psychology, M S University at 10 am on Monday.

Get-together
The International Students8217; Association organised a get-together at the Residency Bungalow as part of the association8217;s annual programme. Students from various parts of the world, studying in the M S University, spoke about their country. The function was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane.
