
Restrictions for Ganpati festival
Police Commissioner J Mahapatra, through a notification, has banned Ganpati puja organisers from charging money from visitors and also the throwing of white powder or liquid materials during the upcoming Ganeshotsav. The ban will remain in force from September 13 to 26. Violation of the order will amount to an offence under Indian Penal Code, 1960.
Speedbreaker
General secretary of the M S University students8217; union Prakash Verma has submitted a memorandum to M S University Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane demanding a speed-breaker near the D N Hall campus. He said since this was the most frequently used of the university entrances, a speedbreaker was necessary to prevent accidents.
Seminar in city
The Society of Petroleum Geophysicists, in association with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, USA, will organise a seminar on Seismic Velocity Modely as an Interpretation Asset8217; on Friday. According to a release, it will be addressed by eminent geophysicist Phil Schultz.
Exhibition
A three-day exhibition of paintings by Vasudha Thozur of the Faculty of Fine Arts, M S University, opens at the exhibition hall of the faculty on Friday.
Disha workshop
To encourage the empowerment of disabled people through vocational training and income-generation, Disha, an information, guidance and rehabilitation centre for the disabled, will conduct a training workshop on basic sewing and handicrafts. The interested should contact Disha8217;s office at 320, Race Course Towers, Gotri, or on 300059 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on weekdays. Disabled people seeking employment/training can also register with the organisation.
Alumni meet
Students of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication will organise the first alumni meeting at the D N campus at 12.30 pm on Saturday.
IMA Day
Members of the Indian Medical Association will celebrate the IMA Annual Day at the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh on September 19, when the new office-bearers will take charge. IMA city president and secretary Rajesh Trivedi and Kamal Jain said a colourful cultural programme would be organised on the occasion.
