MSU dept8217;s radio medley
As part of the curriculum, the students of the Faculty of Journalism and Communications of M S University have produced a radio programme, which is scheduled to be aired on Yuvwani on August 29 at 5.30 pm. The 28-minute medley put together by second-year students under the guidance of Manisha Shelat and Niti Chopra includes an informative docudrama on the Mystic Past of Egypt8217;.

Scanty rain
Parts of the city received scanty rain towards the evening on Wednesday. According to the district flood control room and the meteorology office, however, the rainfall was too little to be recorded. A little rainfall has been forecast for parts of the district in the next 24 hours.

Blood donated
A blood donation camp organised by the Western Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides on Sadbhavana Day recently saw 49 people, including railway doctors and officers, donate blood. The camp was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager K C Jena.

One injured
Surat: One person sustained serious injuries when he was hit on the head with a sharp weapon while travelling on the pillion of a motorcycle between Umarzhar and Umarkhadi in Mangrol taluka on Tuesday night. The injured, a pastor of Kevdi village, said in the police complaint that about seven youths, their faces covered, attacked him and his associate, who was driving the bike, with the intention of robbing them. However, they did not steal anything. DSP V M Pargi said additional forces have been deployed in the area.

Sonia in Valsad
Three national-level leaders 8212; Sonia Gandhi, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Kanshi Ram 8212; will visit South Gujarat over the next three days. The Bahujan Samaj Party8217;s Kanshi Ram will address a public meeting on Udhna Main Road at 3 pm on Saturday, while Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav will address a gathering at Kot Safil Road at noon. Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address a public meeting at Dharampur in Valsad district on Friday.

Poll meetings
District Electoral Officer Sangeeta Singh has summoned sector magistrates, zonal officers and assistant returning officers to a meeting at 11 am on Friday in Bardoli to discuss the election management for the Mandvi parliamentary constituency. The meeting will be chaired by Singh and Mandvi constituency electoral officer Bharat Joshi. The meeting for the Surat constituency will be held at P T Science College Hall at noon on Sunday, which all sector magistrates and returning officers have been asked to attend.
