
No action on PSC water
Water samples collected from the Vadodara Municipal Corporation-owned Padmavati Shopping Centre have been found unfit for consumption. But the civic body is yet to take any action on it. The Municipal Press and the Vehicle Tax department have been receiving contaminated water for the past week.
Army tests
Gujarat-based candidates for recruitment to the Indian Army will be held in Garrison Parade Ground, near Camp Hanuman, Ahmedabad, from June 21 to 27. General duty candidates will be examined for physical fitness from 6 a.m. on June 21 and that of technical category from 6 a.m. on June 22. Candidates who pass that hurdle will be subjected to medical examinations from June 23 to 26. For the final lot, a written test will be held on June 27.
Action initiated
The Weight and Measures department initiated action against 33 shopkeepers under the Packaging Act, 48 shopkeepers for using improper weights and slapped fines of about Rs 8,000 in the past week. In all, more than 260 shops were inspected, a press note said here on Monday.
Centre opened
Mayor Bharati Vyas on Tuesday inaugurated a anganwadi centre near Santoshnagar in Subhanpura. Speaking on the occasion, she lauded councillor Yogesh Patel, who has given Rs 90,000 from his quota for the centre. Children from nearby areas will be trained at the centre.
Plea to VMC
On behalf of shopkeepers of the VMC-owned Padmavati Shopping Centre, L M Rochani, a shop-owner, has urged Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria to ensure that leaking roofs and water-logging did not damage their goods during the monsoon. Claiming that their earlier requests fell on deaf ears, he said if the problem was not sorted out, they would have no alternative but to seek compensation.
