No evening water supply
People residing between Panigate water tank and Waghodia Road will not get the evening water supply on Tuesday as the VMC will join a 12-inch main cast iron pipeline after the morning supply, according to official information.
2-day seminar
A two-day seminar on `Human Rights: A New Face of Social Work’ will be held at the Faculty of Social Work beginning Tuesday. Students will speak on human rights of women, children, unorganised labour and on police and minority. The seminar is aimed at developing sensitivity among the students about human rights.
Death mourned
GEB Chairman Nalin Bhatt, social worker Fatehsinh Rana, members of the Citizens Blood Donation Society and the GEDA, among others, have mourned the death of Nanubhai Amin. In a message, Bhatt said that Amin’s efforts in the field of non-conventional sources of energy, electric motors and internal combustion engines were commendable. Rana said he had advocated the need to set up a separate Gujarat state.
AIR, DD stir
Nearly 10 members (accountants and clerks) of the Akashvani and Doordarshan Administrative Staff Association on Monday began an indefinite strike in support of their long-pending demands of pay revision and several other issues. Association secretary N A Vala said the stir will not affect AIR’s functioning.
Pension demand
Retired employees of ONGC’s Ankleshwar Project have decided to lodge a claim with the ONGC/LIC for payment of interest on delayed payment of pension. At a meeting held recently, they also decided to take up the issue of early payment of pending medical bills in Ankleshwar. The members said they would file a caseagainst the management’s decision to reduce pension.
