
With the term of the office of Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, due to end on August 18 2007, the Election Commission announced the dates for the 13th Vice-Presidential election on Thursday.
According to the schedule announced by the EC, polling will take place on August 10 and counting of votes will be held on the same evening. The notification for the election will be issued on July 9 and the last date for filing nomination papers is July 23. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on July 24 and candidates can withdraw till July 26. The nomination paper of a candidate should carry names of 20 electors as proposers and at least 20 electors as seconders. An elector can subscribe to only one nomination paper of a candidate as either a proposer or a seconder.
