UT powermen protest against vacant posts

CHANDIGARH, Sept 30: The UT Powermen Union today held a demonstration in front of the Electricity Department, Sector 20, to protest the UT administration8217;s quot;indifferencequot; to their demands.

According to a press note issued by union general secretary Bhag Mal Rana, the union wants the vacant posts filled by promoting UT employees rather than inviting a panel from the Punjab State Electricity Board for the same. Union leaders threatened to intensify their agitation if the panel is not withdrawn by the administration.

Other demands of the union include: release of 1997-98 and 1998-99 bonus; release of arrears to the remaining categories of the department employees; creation of additional posts to cope with increasing workload and appointment of the next of the kin of the deceased employees.
