SURAT, March 30: The Surat Municipal Corporation witnessed uproarious scenes when independent councillor Prakash Desai presented bangles to Mayor Savita Sharda for BJP8217;s super-flop performance8217;. The Mayor answered the challenge by suspending Desai for indecent behaviour8217;.

Lambasting the ruling BJP for kowtowing to Municipal Commissioner S Jagdeesan, the independent councillor asked the mayor to wear bangles and also give some to Standing Committee chairman Ajay Choksi and leader of the house Natu Soma Patel.

Taking serious note of Desai8217;s misdemeanour, chief whip Hanmukh Jogani and leader of House Patel asked the Mayor to suspend the councillor, directing security guards to throw him out of the House.

Later talking to Express Newsline Standing Committee Chairman Choksi said Desai should have maintained decorum. His act was indecent and condemnable.Desai had chided the BJP for not reacting even after being humiliated8217; by the commissioner. He said it was unfortunate that the commissioner humiliated a senior member of Standing Committee when the councillor wanted to bring up problems faced by larri-gallas.

After the suspension, Congress councillor Bhupendra Solanki launched a blistering attack on the administration for irregularities in tax collection. He accused officials of harassing slum dwellers of Udhna.

Solanki said under BJP rule the SMC8217;s coffers were empty.

Ultimately Solanki walked out when he was not allowed to speak on a resolution brought by former Town Planning Committee Chairman Arvind Rana.
