HYDERABAD, July 27: South-East Asian giants Korea are virtually assured of qualifying for the forthcoming Asian Under-16 Football Championship to be held at Doha Qatar in October next. A facile 2-0 victory over Pakistan yesterday in the ongoing Eighth Asian Under-16 qualifying Group-D Football Championship being played at Lal Bahadur Stadium here providing the impetus.
Koreans who triumphed over Pakistan and defeated hosts India in their opening tie by a solitary goal have six points to head the four-team round robin league table.
Koreans in upbeat mood are raring to go all out to decimate lowly placed Kazakhstan in their last league tie to be played here tomorrow to keep their slate clean.
Hosts India who are in the second position with three points in the league table, with one win and one loss, have an outside chance to qualify, and it all depends in the last league tie. For India to qualify, Kazakhstan would have to upset Korea, which is unlikely after their shoddy display in the event. Besides,India would also have to notch a convincing victory over arch-rivals Pakistan.
India appeared to be a transformed side in their victory over Kazakhstan yesterday would once again have to rely on the forward line of Kuman Samson Singh, skipper Satish Kumar Bharti, Dipankar Roy and Saroj Patnaik.
If they keep the same tempo against their arch rivals Pakistan in their last league match tomorrow then the Indian boys still have a chance to top the table.
India has better goal difference than the other three teams in the fray but are second on points table behind Korea.
