UPA-Left unity should not be disturbed: DMK

DMK Chief M Karunanidhi said that the unity between the UPA and Left parties should not be disrupted over the latter8217;s opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal, as it would affect the nation8217;s progress.

Emerging from Karunanidhi8217;s residence after a 40-minute meeting with him and CPI leader D Raja, Karat told reporters that the Chief Minister had told them that the disruption would only pave the way for 8216;communal forces8217; to gain the upper hand.

Karat said they had assured Karunanidhi that the Left parties would meet again to find a solution to the Indo-US nuclear deal.

8220;We will meet Karunanidhi again,8221; he said.

Karat said they had put forth the Left parties8217; views on the UPA Government8217;s move to go ahead with negotiations with the IAEA board of governors on the safeguards agreement.

8220;We are against it. We have explained to him our stand.

As a senior leader of the UPA, Karunanidhi will take up the issue with the Congress,8221; he said.

8220;We have assured him that the Left parties will discuss the matter and come out with a solution,8221; he said.

On the Indo-Pakistan-Iran pipeline, he said, 8220;We want the negotiations to continue so that the deal is completed8221;.
