UP Govt told to probe graft charges against CIC

Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar has directed the state Government to conduct an inquiry into allegations of corruption and irregularities in the recruitment of staff against Chief Information Commissioner CIC Justice retd M A Khan.

A senior official in Chief Minister Mayawati8217;s secretariat said Rajeswar had referred a complaint against Khan to the Government for a probe. The Raj Bhavan had sought a report from the Government at the earliest, he said.

The complaint referred to appointment of Class III and IV staff in the commission disregarding the rules governing reservation provisions for the SCs/STs and OBCs.

The petition against Khan has also alleged that the quality of judgments delivered by him as the CIC is extremely poor.

Khan denied the allegations and said 8220;it was a case of retaliation by some IAS officers8221;.
