UP CM snubs BJP, CBI to probe murder

In another move to embarrass the BJP, the Mayawati government has recommended a CBI inquiry into the murder of a lawyer in which a former minister and BJP leader was named as accused in the FIR along with a PCS officer.

The ex-minister Ram Kumar Verma was taken into custody for interrogation on Friday but the state BJP leaders put pressure on CM Mayawati, which led to his release on Saturday. The CM then recommended a CBI inquiry on Sunday.

The lawyer, Indra Deo Singh, was shot by an unidentified assailant on Friday.
