Citing law and order problems, the Uttar Pradesh government has banned a two-day workshop on communal harmony.
It was to be attended by Magsaysay award winner Sandeep Pandey, former Rajya Sabha MP Nirmala Deshpande, senior journalist Praful Bidwai and former Lucknow University V-C Roop Rekha Verma at Faizabad.
The organiser, the National Alliance of People’s Movement, has also been denied permission to take out a padyatra from Faizabad to Rajghat in Delhi.
The workshop was to begin on Wednesday but now the padyatra will be taken out on September 27.
Activists of the NGO were also attacked by a group owing allegiance to the Sangh Parivar in Pune on September 11.
