Dreaming is the easiest thing to do in the world! All of us have at some time or the other fantasised about ruling the world, or day-dreamt about travelling all around the world and visiting exotic places. And fortunately nobody can curb the imagination. Everyone is free to dream and to think. Dreams are very powerful and nobody can stop you from thinking or dreaming 8212; the way you wish to!
No wonder, Bertolt Bretch, one of the master playwrights of this century says, in one of his plays that, 8220;Thinking is one of the greatest pleasures of all mankind!8221; Yes! dreams shall always remain dreams, or ideas in the head unless they are backed by action. And the strength of a dream, spurred by action gave birth to Khilona8217; a theatre group. A group which caters exclusively to children. They claim to involve children only, although their definition of a child extends till the age of 19-20 years.
According to the director of the Khilona theatre group, VK, 8220;Acting is a means to understand a child8221;. He explains this in the words of Lev Ustinov 8220;I think one of the main tasks of plays for children is to give them confidence. And to help them overcome fear. If an art is to be of any use to a young person in his or her future, this is one way of doing it.8221;
The Golden Fish, a play by the Khilona group, recently completed 350 shows all over India. The play is one example of VK8217;s exquisite work. The play not only has a interesting and different plot, but also shows the emotions of rivalry and jealousy which bothers a child. And for all you kids out there who are interested the play will be staged this evening at the India Habitat Centre at 6:30 pm.
The play was originally written by Pushkin and has been translated by Madan Lal Madhu in Hindi. The Khilona Theatre Group is also coming up with a workshop in October. This workshop is distinctively interactive and lays emphasis on the creative side. The workshop will give the child various creative situations to perform and express themselves. The fears of a child will be analysed and efforts will be made to eliminate them. Team work is another aspect which is been looked into. This workshop will also decide the casting for the next play by the Khilona group, so all you kids interested in their place under the arc-lights, shouldn8217;t miss it!
