
At a time when deaths of people suffering from vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue and Japanese Encephalitis have made headlines, an unknown fever claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman on Saturday.
Sujata Ghosh, a resident of ward number 121 in Behala, had been suffering from very high fever for the last two days. She was brought to the Vidyasagar Hospital this morning, but she was declared dead on arrival. 8220;She was running some unknown fever for the last few days ,8221; said Councillor of ward 121, Kishore Ghosh.
A case of chikungunia, meanwhile, was reported in Salt Lake on Saturday. Biren Singh 60, a shanty-dweller, who lives near FB market, tested positive for chikungunia virus. He has been admitted to the Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital. Singh and eight other shanty-dwellers were suffering from high fever but only he tested positive.
Though there have been no reported case of malaria and encephalitis in the area, eleven cases of dengue have been reported so far. 8220;There is no need for panic. We are taking all possible precautionary measures to prevent outbreak of any mosquito-borne disease,8221; said Nandagopal Bhattacharya, chairman-in-council health of Bidhannagar Municipality.
