PUNE, Feb 28: The Wanowrie police has arrested two youths for allegedly raping two minor girls at the house of one of the accused in Kondhwa Khurd. The incident took place last week.
One of the youths identified as Datta Shankar Malekar (23) is an autorickshaw driver. The other youth was identified as Dattatray Sopan More (26).
The two girls, both aged fourteen years, who were proceeding to school, were told by another girl that a friend was calling them at her home. The girls went to the house as directed. Malekar and More who were present at the house committed the crime and threatened the girls of dire consequences if they reported the incident to anyone.
Later, a complaint was lodged with the police and the two youths, who were absconding, were arrested.
House burgled: Gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 46,000 were stolen by unidentified thieves from a house near the shopping centre at Dapodi last evening. The house, owned by Kisan Mohan Agarwal, was locked but the thieves climbed over the roof and removed the tiles to get inside. The Bhosari police are investigating.
Girl attempts suicide: An eighteen-year-old girl residing in Dhankavadi area yesterday created a panic for the local residents and the police when she climbed on the terrace of a building and threatened to commit suicide. The police and the residents ultimately succeeded in persuading the girl to backtrack.
Around 11.30 p.m. some residents noticed that the girl was precariously sitting on the terrace. The girl wanted to commit suicide as her marriage was getting delayed. The residents immediately raised an alarm and summoned more people. Meanwhile, some residents called the police. It was an ordeal for the residents and the police had to persuade the girl.
Robbery: Two unidentified robbers armed with swords took away valuables and cash worth Rs 10,200 from a person who was proceeding to his house at Meera Nagar in Koregaon Park last night. The person, Shripad Vasant Angavekar, an engineer by profession, was returning home on his motorcycle at around 1.45 a.m., when the two robbers blocked his way and beat him. They forced him to part away with the valuables which included a ring, chain, wrist watch, and cash. Angavekar said the robbers were aged between 25 to 30 years but could not give more description because he could not see them in the dark. The police are investigating the case.
