
CHANDIGARH, JULY 19: A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl committed suicide in two separate incidents here today. Pawanjeet 22 was forced to end his life after he reportedly failed in his BA examination while Ranjana 18 took the drastic step apparently out of depression. According to police sources, Pawanjeet alias Pamma, a resident of Chandon Kalan village of Haryana, reportedly consumed a poisonous substance at a Sector 22 guest house here. Around 1.20 p.m. he came down and informed the receptionist that he had consumed an insecticide. He was rushed to the PGI where he died within an hour.
The police found a suicide note from his room which said that he had failed in his BA exams. The note added that he was also depressed due to persistent quarrels at his house. It also contained the telephone number of his local relatives in Sector 41 here. Pawanjeet8217;s father was also in the city as he had been missing from his house for more than a fortnight.
In a separate incident, Ranjana alias Rekha hanged herself to death at her residence in Dadumajra Colony here. She hanged herself by a scarf from the hook of a door, said police sources.
Ranjana was alone at her house as her father, mother and elder brother had left for their respective chores while her three younger sisters had gone to school.
Quoting the deceased8217;s parents, police sources said just a few days ago Rekha had taken admission in the non-medical stream of Sector 20 Government Senior Secondary School, which was far from her place. She was feeling perturbed over this.
She had a fairly decent academic record with 75 per cent marks in matriculation, sources added.
