Greg Chappell has decided to shift gears and focus on winning the rest of the matches in the Indian Oil triangular series after consecutive defeats to Sri Lanka.
As the team trained hard at the NCC ground, Chappell expressing utter disappointment at the way India lost their second match to Sri Lanka, announced a few corrective measures.
8220;We will play both our spinners. We will field our best team in the final and continue with Sehwag and Ganguly as openers for the rest of the matches,8217;8217; he said.
India have to beat West Indies on Sunday to play the final against Lanka and with that in mind, Chappell eventually appears to have given his experiments a rest.
As he suggested, as did a few former Sri Lankan cricketers, the Indians would be a lot better team in the final. Hopefully, the combinations would finally have been identified.
Confirming that Jai Prakash Yadav will take the field on Sunday, Chappell hinted that Suresh Raina would sit out the game with Ashish Nehra who makes way for Zaheer Khan.
But another major concern for Chappell is Mahendra Singh Dhoni8217;s loss of form, both with the bat and behind the wickets. The wicketkeeper-batsman had a disappointing game behind the stumps in the last couple of matches and has also not been able to contribute with the bat.
8216;8216;He8217;s working hard. The coming days should be better,8217;8217; Chappell said.
8216;8216;In cricket, like in life, such things happen. Winning is a habit and it takes practice,8217;8217; he said, indicating that the Indian team had now come close to a line-up that can be continued for some time.
Obviously impressed with the way Sourav went about his half-century in his comeback match, the coach spent ample time with him at the nets, fine-tuning his technique. 8220;We are learning our lessons. Things will not happen overnight but we are committed to working hard,8217;8217; he said.
