Two robbed, beaten up in broad daylight

In broad daylight, a group of miscreants stopped a mini-bus and robbed two passengers on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Watgunj area, with fellow passengers acting as mute spectator. Two of the accused persons have been arrested.

The police said two youths Rabi Mondol 26 and Shib Prasad Dahanuk were travelling in the bus on the Metiabruz-Howrah route.

Around 9 am, when the bus reached the CGR Road and Brooke Lane crossing, a group of youth stopped the bus. They got into the bus and began beating up Dahanuk and Mondol. The duo were then dragged out of the bus and taken to a desolate place, where they were severely beaten up.

The co-passengers did not dare to intervene in the matter. 8220;The youth were carrying firearms and were openly brandishing them,8221; said a police officer of West Port police station.

The miscreants also took away the money that the duo were carrying. They left the spot soon after the incident. The victims, however, managed to reach the local police station and lodged a complaint.

The goons have been identified as Akhtar Hossain 33, Sohel Khan 32, Robin Das 27, Golam Khan 24, Md. Munna 35 and Anand Gupta, said a police officer.

A small part of the money and a mobile phone was recovered from the two miscreants, who were arrested. 8212;ENS
