
NEW DELHI, December 4: At least two incidents of murder and three incidents of attempt to murder were reported from the city in the past 24 hours.
In one incident, 21-year-old Kalpana Devi was found murdered in her house at Dev Nagar in the Prasad Nagar area yesterday evening. There were knife injuries as well as strangulation marks on her neck.
In another incident, Vijay Pal, 40, a resident of Shahbad Dairy in the Samaipur Badli area was reportedly stabbed to death under mysterious circumstances last night.
The north-west district police say they got a call at 3 a.m., though the incident occurred more than three hours earlier. In fact, Vijay Pal8217;s wife, who was present on the spot, told the police that her husband was stabbed around 11.45 p.m, but failed to explain why it was reported so late.
She reportedly told the police that she woke up with a start at that time to find three knife-wielding youths attacking her husband. Vijay Pal died on the spot.
She also named the culprits. When the police reached the spot, they were surprised to find two of the accused sleeping in Vijay Pal8217;s house. The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing.
In the Vivek Vihar police station area this morning, an altercation between three persons led to one wounding another. The police say two of the youths 8212; Sonu and Dharambir 8212; went to Vishwas Nagar in Vivek Vihar to settle scores with another youth Rishi.
They were reportedly offended8217; that Rishi had infiltrated their territory8217;. They attacked Rishi with swords, injuring him on the shoulders and hands. Sonu and Dharambir fled the spot on his motorcycle. The police are yet to trace them.
Marham Shah, 24, was reportedly stabbed by two persons following an altercation over filling water from a handpump in the Shakarpur area yesterday evening.
According to the police and other residents, Marham Shah was in a queue. But when his turn came, three youths reportedly pushed him aside. Marham protested, and was attacked with knives. The police have identified two of the assailants, but are yet to arrest them.
And in Kirti Nagar, an auto-rickshaw driver, Santosh, reportedly set his wife on fire after dousing her with kerosene. The police say Santosh was agitated because his wife had refused to prepare tea for him.
The woman sustained 35 per cent burns and is recuperating in DDU hospital. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Santosh, who is absconding.
