
PUNE, Sept 4: Two persons were killed on the spot and three were seriously injured in two separate road accidents which took place in various parts of the city within a short span of one-and-a-half hours early on Friday morning.
A 22-year-old youth from Bhilarewadi in Katraj was killed and two others were seriously injured when a tempo collided head-on with their scooter near the Mukha Engineering Works on Pune-Satara Road.
The three youths were returning home after watching decorations of Ganesh mandals when the mishap took place around 3 a.m. Pankaj D Tikekar 22 was killed on the spot when he came under the wheels of the tempo. His brother Pravin 20 and friend Prashant B Chorge, who were seriously injured were shifted to the Sassoon Hospital by passers-by. The Sahakarnagar police have launched a hunt to track down the tempo driver who sped away after the mishap.
Annasaheb N Gawand 30 of Landge Chawl in Dhavde Vasti area of Bhosari was killed on the spot when a tanker collided with the six-seater autorickshaw he was travelling in at Kasarwadi near Sandvik company. Six-seater autorickshaw driver Sunil G. Yadav, who was also injured in the mishap, has been admitted to Yashvantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri, police said. Truck driver Anil B. Salunke 23 of Thergaon has been arrested by the Bhosari police.
