The IAF took another hit on Friday when two Jaguar deep penetration strike aircraft went missing over Sonamarg in north Kashmir while on a routine training sortie.

While the IAF maintained that the aircraft were 8216;8216;missing8217;8217; since afternoon, senior Army officials said the two aircraft had crashed in the Sonamarg area, not far from the Line of Control LoC.

In Srinagar, police officials said they had reports of two explosions being heard in the Sonamarg area and teams had been sent there. The Army has been placed on stand-by to assist in search operations.

According to IAF officials, four Jaguar fighters took off from Srinagar air force station on a routine sortie over the Valley when they encountered bad weather.

While two Jaguars flew back to the air force base, the other two lost radio contact.

According to IAF sources, the aircraft made their last contact while they were over Sonamarg and it8217;s believed that the aircraft may have crashed in the area.

According to Air Headquarters, the fighters were flown by two flight lieutenants who were fully trained on the Jaguar.

Bad weather and darkness forced the IAF and Army to suspend search operations. IAF officials said the search would resume on Saturday morning.
