Two Daga murder case accused held

June 12: The V P Road police arrested two persons accused in the double murder a woman r and her nine-year-old daughter early this year.

Senior inspector Suresh Jadhav of the V P Road station said they arrested Gopal Daga and Noora, in connection with the Daga murder on February 14, while the third accused Sunny is still at large. Vimla Daga 35 and her daughter Pooja were found murdered in their apartment. There were apparently no clues to the murder except missing jewellery. The husband Premchand, a broker with the Cotton Exchange, too could not name suspects. After questioning of over 25 witnesses, the needle of suspicion pointed toward Gopal Daga, a cousin, whose conspicuous absence from various family functions led the police to believe that he was trying to evade family members. The police found that he had taken to Mumbai8217;s night life, kept company of suspicious characters and was always short of money. After he was picked up, it did not take the police long to make him spill the beans.

Gopal toldthe police he called Vimla to make sure her husband and the son were not at home and went there with his associates. He held the little girl8217;s legs while his two associates murdered her, later Vimla and they escaped with the gold and ornaments, the police said.
