CHANDIGARH, April 8: Holding two city police constables, among three, guilty of criminal intimidation and also of uttering obscene words to women intending to insult their modesty, UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Paramvir Nijjar today released them on probation after they furnished probation bonds in the sum of Rs 5,000 each with one surety of the like amount.

The guilty, Ashok Kumar, Sanjiv Kumar both constables and Anil Kumar were also directed to pay a compensation of Rs 4,000. The accused were booked here on October 25, 1995 under Sections 509, 506, 323, 147, 149 of the Indian Penal Code.

It was alleged that on the intervening night of October 23 and 24, 1995, the accused were members of an unlawful assembly and caused hurt to Major Gulpreet Singh and Ajit Singh. They also allegedly criminally intimidated them and uttered obscene words to two ladies, including Simrat Dhillon, the eye-witness.

The prosecution case was made strong when Simrat Dhillon deposed before the court that Gulpreet and Ajit Singh were physically assaulted by the alleged accused.

Simrat Dhillon deposed that Anil Kumar punched her husband, Gulpreet Singh, on the face.
