AHMEDABAD, Oct 28: Though the truckers8217; week-long nation-wide indefinite strike ended on a happy note after the Government agreed to accord their trade the status of industry last night, truck operators in the State are not satisfied with the declaration.

Most truckers Express Newsline spoke to said giving their trade the status of industry would not benefit them at all. There were few, though, who felt the decision would help them get several facilities.

8220;Big transport companies may be benefited by the decision, but it is not going to benefit small operators at all,8221; Akhil Gujarat Truck Transport Association president Nandlal Thaper said, adding it would now become easier for big companies to get loans from financing companies and banks. They said the industry status had only added to the problems of small operators as they would have to maintain more records.

8220;The only benefit for all truck operators is that they will be provided licences by the Government and will not have to run after the authorities,8221; Thaper clarified.

However, AGTA honorary secretary Nimish J Patel did not subscribe to the view that small truckers would not gain from the industry status.
