BALASORE ORISSA, May 11: India today successfully test-fired short-range triple-role quot;Trishulquot;, which can be used as surface-to-surface or surface-to-air missile.

The missile, developed by the Defence Research Development Organisation DRDO, was test-fired at around 1 p m, at the interim test-range ITR in Chandipur near here, official sources said. The missile, with a 50-km range, can be used by the navy as well. The trial today was carried out by the army to test its surface-to-surface capabilities, the sources said.

The Trishul, first test-fired in 1983, is among the five missiles being developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development programme IGMDP. The Trishul uses the radar line of a sight guidance device and is powered by a two-stage solid propellant system, the sources said.
