KAGAL, SEPT 7: The Kagal Assembly constituency in Kolhapur district is witness to an interesting tussle between the NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena and is likely to generate heat and dust in rival camps.

Though the main contest is between Hassan Mushriff of NCP and Sanjay Ghatge of Congress, both traditional rivals in the Assembly segment, Shiv Sena is also a force to reckon with. The Sena has pitted a new face Dilip patil for the seat.

In the 1995 elections, the seat was won by Congress nominee Sadashiv Mandlik. Following his resignation after being elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998, Ghatge, then a Shiv Sena candidate, had captured it in the by-election. He later deserted the Sena and joined Congress.
